Step by Step

Your LASIK Journey

Understanding every step of the procedure

Step 1

Before LASIK Surgery

Your doctor will perform a thorough eye exam to ensure that your eyes are healthy enough for the procedure.

Evaluation Includes:

  • Shape and thickness of your cornea
  • Pupil size assessment
  • Refractive errors (myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism)
  • Pre-existing eye conditions
  • Eye moisture levels
Procedure Time:

About 10 minutes per eye

Expected Results:

20/20 vision without glasses or contact lenses

Recovery Time:

A few days to several weeks for vision to stabilize

Stop wearing contact lenses for about two weeks before your exam and procedure, as they can alter the natural shape of your cornea.

Step 2

During LASIK Surgery

Before your surgery begins, numbing eye drops are applied to prevent any discomfort during the procedure.

Procedure Steps:

  • Your eye is positioned under the laser
  • A lid speculum keeps your eyelids open
  • Surgeon marks the cornea with an ink marker
  • Suction ring prevents eye movement
  • Computer adjusts laser for your prescription
  • Look at target light during laser pulses

What You'll Experience:

  • Painless reshaping of cornea
  • Some pressure on your eye
  • Steady clicking sound from laser
  • About 5 minutes per eye
Step 3

After LASIK Surgery

Upon completion of your LASIK surgery, your surgeon will request you to rest for some time.

Immediate After-Effects:

  • Temporary burning or itching sensation
  • Blurred vision initially
  • Cannot drive until next day check-up
  • Vision improvement by next morning

Recovery Guidelines:

  • May return to work next day
  • Rest for a couple of days recommended
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for one week
  • Follow doctor's instructions carefully

Important: Avoid rubbing your eyes, as this could dislodge the flap before proper healing.'

Alternative Vision Correction Options

If LASIK is not a suitable option, several other vision correction surgeries are available, including PRK, LASEK laser eye surgery, and Phakic IOL surgery. An eye specialist will evaluate your condition and recommend the most appropriate procedure tailored to your needs.
